NovelAI NovelAI is an anime image generator and story writer in one browser tab. The site pushes Diffusion V5 for characters, scenes, and full comic pages, plus story models powered by GLM 4.6. A trial is offered, and subscriptions start at $10/month. It suits adults who want anime art and long-form stories without installing software.
What you can create with NovelAI
Image generation is the main draw. You prompt in natural language and with tags, set character position, use action tags, and define characters separately so later scenes stay consistent. The site says Diffusion V5 brings sharper detail, more characters, and full comic pages in one model. That is a lot of page for a single prompt. Generation runs in the browser, including on a phone, with no install. Supported browsers are Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge.
Editing tools
Inpainting lets you change a selected area, from a face to a background. Director Tools can enhance detail, alter clothing, adjust lighting, or change a pose while keeping the style. A built-in canvas is there for quick edits that steer the next pass.
Stories beside the pictures
Story generation, powered by GLM 4.6, is framed as writing with you rather than handing you a finished tale. The homepage describes worlds, characters, and stories that remember what you build. One subscription covers both the anime image generator and the text generator.
Is NovelAI free? Pricing and limits
Buttons invite you to start generating and writing for free, and the FAQ points new users to a trial. The same FAQ is plain: this is not a free image generator. The free start is a trial, not an open tab forever. Subscriptions start at $10/month, billed on 30-day intervals in US dollars, for casual creators who want both tools. Skip the monthly plan and on-demand Anlas can fuel image generation. Taxes are extra.
Cancel and the next period is not billed. Access lasts until the active period ends. Refunds are not offered unless the company explicitly grants one. You must be 18 or older. A subscription is one account, usable on any number of devices.
Privacy and content rules
The site says you can generate without linking personal information, that prompts are encrypted, and that images are not kept on its servers unless you save them. Unsaved images exist only for the session. It also says request content is not logged without your consent. Saved content is encrypted, and your password is the key. Lose that password and stored work cannot be recovered.
You keep ownership of what you generate. The FAQ says commercial use is allowed with no extra subscription. After a subscription ends, you have 45 days to export content before it may be deleted. Reference images for edits may be cached briefly in encrypted form, then deleted on their own.
Verdict
Pick NovelAI if you want anime images, comic pages, and co-written stories in the browser, and you will pay from $10/month. Skip it if you need a lasting free generator or a refund you can count on. For anime-first adults who also write, it is a capable paid workshop with unusually specific privacy claims.
NovelAI Alternatives
NovelAI pairs anime images with story writing from $10/month, yet it is not a free image generator. If that package is the wrong fit, the tools below play a different game.
Streamers should look at Live3D AI Hentai before they pay NovelAI. NovelAI stays in the browser from $10/month, with a trial, Anlas, and story models. Live3D AI Hentai is a 3D VTuber suite with webcam face and hand tracking, an OBS virtual camera, and a free Lite Suite that includes 6 free avatars. The site lists more than 50 premade avatars and 100+ VTuber assets. Steam is required, Live2D is unsupported, and VIP custom work starts at $1K. Choose it for a live avatar, not owned comic pages.
Community models are the split. PixAI.Art says you can create with 1.8M+ models and LoRAs, and new accounts get 10,000 credits. NovelAI starts at $10/month after a trial and is not a free image generator, though you keep ownership and commercial use needs no extra tier. PixAI.Art allows up to 15 LoRAs per generation, and unused membership credits roll over. Member video is up to 10 seconds and needs membership. Choose PixAI.Art if community LoRAs matter more than NovelAI story writing.
Free generation is the practical difference. CreateHentai lets free users make images from styles and tags, while custom prompts need Premium and Gems buy Turbo Queue. NovelAI is not a free image generator. A trial comes first, then plans from $10/month, plus on-demand Anlas. CreateHentai also offers pics, GIFs, videos and comics, and a contest pays 150K Gems first. Distorted anatomy is common, and the free queue can run slow. Uploads are banned. Pick CreateHentai for tag-based images if you would rather skip a NovelAI plan.
